Concept

The Nest explores architecture as a lightweight protective shelter, where structure, greenery and enclosure combine to create a living, adaptable space.

It treats the building like a grown habitat, blurring inside and outside while allowing the structure to evolve over time.

A simple framework that supports reuse, flexibility and nature-integrated living.

About

About

Focusing on creation and the connection to the land, bonding the building itself to the land over time to reduce its footprint and instead be built as part of the land. The site context controlled the development of the building as it controls and harnesses the environment around it developed in a way to grow and become a self-sustaining ecosystem over time where the environment grows over and becomes the building. The site is over a hill in Red Hill with views out towards the ocean and provides great catchment for wind and water while also holding human livable spaces below. The definitions of what a shelter is created the understanding go safety of humans and animals alike, this building aims to create a shelter for all forms of life. The emphasis of recycling and creation of valuable resources for others to survive off develops the plan over 100 and 1000 years. To understand the growth of buildings and the impact they can have to the environment, how design itself can help the environment grow fruitfully rather than tear it down.
